Kathy’s Corner: NATIONAL EYE EXAM MONTH

August is National Eye Exam Month, which presents agents with an opportunity to discuss Vision Insurance with their clients. As school sessions begin now is a great time to approach your clients with children, and for their own vision care. Comprehensive eye exams are an essential part of preventive healthcare 1.  Make sure that your clients have adequate coverage so that they and their family can see an eye doctor for a thorough review of their vision health.

Eye exams are important for all ages, and the American Optometric Association offers the following guidelines for eye exam frequency by age-group 2:

  • Children –recommended at 6 months of age, 3 years of age, before first grade, and every 2 years until age 18
  • Age 18 to 60 – every 2 years
  • Age 61+ – annual eye exams

Evidence of any of the following risk factors might require more frequent exams.

  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • Wearing glasses or contacts
  • Hazardous occupations
  • Previous eye injuries
  • A family history of eye disease

Insurance Advisors offers access to quality, affordable Vision Insurance plans.  Call today to find out how we can assist you in making sure your client and their family’s vision health is protected.
